Dionne Warwick - Do You Know The Way To San Jose

Written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David specifically for Dionne Warwick and released in 1968. It reached #10 on the US Chart and #8 on the UK Chart. The song led Warwick to earned a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Pop Vocal Performance, Female.

Warwick didn't want to record the song, but she was encouraged by the songwriters. Warwick: "I thought it was a really silly song. Obviously Hal David had a great affinity for San Jose as I believe he was stationed there during his time time in the Navy and he loved the place and he wrote a song about it. I just giggled all the way to the bank, what can I tell you?"

Burt Bacharach (from Record Collector magazine): "Dionne did not want to record that song. She didn't like it. But we talked her into it and she did it. Her mind changed once it was a hit (laughs). I knew it was a pretty special song and I knew it was a different kind of song, too."

Was Originally an instrumental song by saxophonist Mike Sharpe(Shapiro) which was hitting #57 on the US pop charts in 1967. It became popular when a version by The Classics IV added lyrics in 1968. The song has been covered by another artists including Dusty Springfield, R.E.M. and Imogen Heap.
This song is one of a longtime friend and secretary of Dusty Springfield, Pat Rhodes' personally favorite songs of all Springfield songs. "It just a lovely little song. It grows on you. I just love it and It's great because They use it on the Carlsberg advert."

Gilbert O'Sullivan - Alone Again (Naturally)

Released in 1972, and spent six weeks at No.1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, reached #3 in the UK Singles Chart.Gilbert started to telling of his plans to commit suicide, and then He telling about the death of his parents. Actually He didn't know his father very well because his father was died when Gilbert was 11. So, O'Sullivan said that this song isn't autobiographical. "I don't think so. 'Alone Again' wasn't. A lot of letters I've had have said, it must be awful, your mother dying like that. My father's dead, but that song's got nothing to do with me. It's just that I think I understand that situation. I get the feeling that if someone was jilted at the church, even though he had never contemplated suicide before, it might be such a shattering experience that he would. Maybe I would. Then, in that sort of deep depression, you would probably think of all the bad things that had happened during your life. They'd all come to you. But it's not about me."

The acoustic guitar solo on this song was played by Scottish born guitarist Big Jim Sullivan (no relation).

The song is included on O'Sullivan's The Berry Vest of Gilbert O'Sullivan album, and also was featured during a scene in Stuart Little 2.

It is the second song from Beach Boys' 1966 album Pet Sounds. Composed and produced by Brian Wilson, lyrics by Tony Asher. The lead vocal was sung by Brian Wilson.
In the introduction of this song, there's an unique sound which is a familiar part of this song. To achieve it, Tony Asher says that "one of us had to get inside the piano to pluck the strings, while the other guy had to be at keyboard pushing the notes so that they would ring."
Brian explained that this song is "A little 'Boys Choir'-type song with me doing the soprano. Very, very spiritual". Later, He recorded this song for his 2002 album "Pet Sounds Live".

Simon & Garfunkel - Old Friends

After they were presented a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award on February 23, 2003 , the duo reunited for a tour of United States (and Toronto, Canada), which ran from October 16 to December 21, 2003. That was their first tour in over two decades. The tour's special guest was The Everly Brother which is Simon & Garfunkel's influence. This tour was entitled "Old Friends".
Simon wrote this song when he was 20, and had an idea to performing it at age 62 "is still shocking to me," he said.
"my friendship with Artie is back to where it was when we were 12 years old," Simon told "We're laughing and kidding around all the time. It's a lot of fun."
"We are remarkably like brothers in our musical calling and our senses of humor." agreed Garfunkel.
